As I posted on my facebook page, my stomach is in knots today.
I am not going to spend a lot of time getting into it right now, but despite being Canadian, this election, like the past several U.S. elections, is quite important to me on a personal level.
Being married to an American, spending time travelling in the U.S. (and worrying about what might happen if we were in an accident or to get sick while there), thinking about how to insure that our children have the same rights as each other in terms of acquiring American citizenship etc. are all things that I think about often.
Nevermind what I truly feel is best for Americans.
I do not plan on staying up and watching the results come in. I anticipate a restless night though, waiting to know what the next four years have in store. I hope those voting are able to see beyond what they may consider their own "best interests" (i.e. their bank accounts) and vote for what I truly believe is best for the citizens of their country.
To quote one of my favourite singer-songwriters "I'm wishing you all of my best, on this Election Day."

I too have been quite nervous about today, despite being Canadian too. It's looking good at the moment though!
ReplyDeleteRest easy Mama....we in Ohio did what we could ;)
ReplyDeleteTY.
DeleteI find your post refreshing. I suppose I didn't realize how much the election here in the US affected not just us, but those around the world.
ReplyDeleteThe elections in the US impact our country, for sure. I was nervous yesterday too and stayed up to see the results because I couldn't stand the suspense. Thank goodness the results are what they are.
ReplyDeleteBeing in the same position as you (married to an American), I had/have the exact same concerns. I will be excited for the day when Jenn is recognized by her own country as our children's parent (as well as recognition of our marriage).
ReplyDeleteokay, so the fact that so many people on the OUTSIDE can clearly see that candidate A is great for America and candidate B would suck, makes me wonder what is going on IN America to make so many Americans unable to see that same picture? I mean, the whole freakin' world was rooting for Obama... doesn't that tell us anything?!
ReplyDeleteWe are SO excited and happy things turned out the way they did!
ReplyDeleteSo are we!!!
